Real Deal Thrift Boutique offers special discounts for Co-op City residents; a percentage of sales are donated to the Riverbay Fund.

A steady stream of shoppers flowed into the Real Deal Thrift Boutique in the Boston Secor Shopping Mall in the Bronx as the store's official grand opening was held on Thursday, September 15, 2016.

In addition to the already deeply discounted items on sale, the http://www.coopcityinfo.com/new_local_businesses.asp" target="_top" rel="follow - Real Deal Thrift Boutique offers veterans, senior citizens and residents of Coop City, a 10% discount on their purchases. Additionally, 5% of all Co-op City sales are donated back to the Riverbay Fund to help offset the cost of community programming, making shopping at the Real Deal Thrift Boutique a sweet deal for Co-op City residents and the community and also for the environment since all of the hand selected, quality items on sale were donated and are being recycled.

The store is beautifully designed and the atmosphere enhanced with uplifting music and scented candles. Strategically placed plants, flowers and ornaments punctuate the neatly organized shelves and baskets of displayed goods that run the gamut from designer bags and footwear to leather belts, winter jackets, coats, messenger and traveling bags. There are items for women, men and children.

Sharon Barrett, a resident of Mt. Vernon, NY who was looking through the racks and shelves on Thursday morning, said that she generally shop in the area, saw the store several weeks ago and decided to step in. Watching her navigate through the rows of shelves stocked with all sorts of fantastic bargains, this was clearly not her first visit to the Real Deal Thrift Boutique, and it won't be her last, she said.

"The prices are unbelievable, very reasonable," said Ms. Barrett. "I was one of the first customers when they opened and that time I got a pocket book. This time , I am just browsing because you never know what you can find. If I see something I absolutely love, I'll get it."

Councilman Andy King was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony and to congratulate the President & CEO of the Real Deal Thrift Boutique, Ted Fisher, on this new and innovative venture.

Mr. Fisher is not only the president and CEO of Real Deal Thrift Boutique but also of County Recycling LLC, which is the company responsible for the recycling bins located at the parking garages in Coop City. In return for these donations of textiles which are deposited by Co-op City residents into the bins, he gives back tens of thousands of dollars annually to the Riverbay Fund, which in turn, are utilized to provide the summer music series held on the community's green-ways for the enjoyment of Co-op City families, as well as Splash Day events for the children on hot summer days and other community programs.

Nestled in the northeastern corner of the Boston Secor Mall on Boston Road, now known as Shopwell Plaza, the Real Deal Thrift Boutique is located in the spot between the http://www.coopcityinfo.com/restaurants/" target="_top" rel="follow - Chinese restaurant and the http://www.coopcityinfo.com/new_local_businesses.asp" target="_top" rel="follow - jewelry store .
